Technip

Sustainable energy
A world leader in engineering, technologies and project management for the oil and gas industry, Technip displays leadership in every aspect of its business.
Technip is a leading provider of project management, engineering, and construction services for the oil and gas industry worldwide. Headquartered in La D├®fense, France, the company designs and builds high-technology industrial installations, such as sub-sea equipment and platforms, and onshore mega-complexes for the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors. It operates in three segments: sub-sea, offshore and onshore.

As of August 2009, the company had a fleet of 17 vessels specializing in sub-sea pipe lay construction and diving support. Backed by more than 50 years of experience and thanks to the expertise and know-how of its teams, Technip is a key contributor to the development of technologies and sustainable solutions to make responsible use of the worldÔÇÖs energy resources.
With more than 22,000 employees worldwide and sales in excess of seven billion Euros during 2009, Technip ranks among the top five corporations globally in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical engineering. The global reach of the organisation is achieved through specialised operating subsidiaries broken down by geographical region. Some of the largest and most critical are Technip France, Technip Italy SpA, Technip UK Limited and Technip USA Inc.
Technip is one of the few engineering and contracting companies to offer a fully integrated services portfolio, which helps retain demanding clients. Clients that engage Technip expect the very best in terms of performance in all areas including quality, safety and adherence to tight schedules. These demands create a competitive business environment where organisations like Technip are required to continually evaluate business performance and adapt to current and changing demands. Technip has shown its fortitude in this respect by embracing a strategic change, bringing its subsidiary companies together in terms of business process and geographic regions, whilst maintaining a clear point of accountability and open channels of communication.
The most recent development of TechnipÔÇÖs operational organisation began in October 2007 as the company looked for ways to further consolidate business processes and increase efficiency across the group as a whole. The chief operating officer, currently Bernard di Tullio, is responsible for business development activities, project execution, engineering and construction. In order to serve a global market, a further seven regional operating units were created covering: North America, Asia Pacific, Brazil, North Sea-Canada, Middle East, Region A (Western Europe, Africa) and Region B (Italy, Eastern Europe, Russia, South America). Whilst the COO retains overall responsibility, each unit remains fully accountable for its operational and financial results. In addition, a specific sub-sea business unit was also created at corporate level, again reporting directly to the COO in France. This strategic restructuring works to provide the COO with current, actionable information relating to the performance of each aspect of the business.
On behalf of its clients, being international and national oil companies in the main, Technip executes infrastructure projects that are increasingly ambitious, complex and demanding. The company has had to find solutions to deal with ultra-deep waters, extreme climates and the execution of mega-sized projects with crucial timelines. In the sub-sea segment, for example, Technip engineers have worked to develop equipment capable of withstanding the extreme pressure and temperature conditions of hydrocarbon fields at water depths beyond 3,000 metres. The varying needs of clients require ongoing innovation from Technip engineers with regard to both exploration techniques and optimization of non-conventional resources in order to enhance environmental performance.
The careful attention to environmental aspects of client projects, together with its concern for safety, ensure TechnipÔÇÖs place as a leader in its field. With current use of natural resources at an all time high, clients who engage Technip to assist in the excavation and development of fossil fuels must consider the sustainable development of these resources as one of the key challenges facing humanity. Technip adds significant value to its service by offering clients technological solutions that optimize natural resources, improve energy efficiency, respect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
TechnipÔÇÖs commitment to sustainable development took shape in 2001 with the drafting of the GroupÔÇÖs Values Charter and the creation of its Ethics Committee. This move came at a relatively early time in the industry, before many competitors started to commit on paper to enhancing the sustainability of their company and industry. This early commitment has been pursued with vigour, reaching several sustainability milestones that increase the attractiveness of Technip to all stakeholders; clients, service providers, employees and shareholders alike.
In 2003, the company became a member of the United Nations Global Compact. Launched on the initiative of the U.N. General Secretary, Kofi Annan, the Global Compact unites companies and United Nations organisations around ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Since September 2003, Technip has also been selected as part of the Dow Jones World and European Sustainability Indexes. In the Oil Services and Equipment industrial sector of the DJSI, Technip continues to hold the leading position, having achieved the best performances in terms of sustainable development in its field.
This high accolade is a testament to the proactive approach Technip takes towards a sustainable future for the creation and use of energy. One of the things that makes Technip a true industry leader is the constant rethinking and analysis of the business. Instead of becoming complacent, Technip has demanded that its business stays in front, constantly evaluating and improving to remain number one.
At a time when awareness of environmental responsibility is increasing worldwide, Technip is committed to continuously minimizing the impact its activities have on the environment. By doing this the company continues to win new contracts all over the globe.
