The investment by the specialty alloy steel and industrial components manufacturer is expected to improve the Faircrest plant's productivity, expand its product range and increase capacity to serve growing demand for Timken specialty alloy steel bars.

America's steel industry is leading manufacturing out of the recession, according to a recent report.

In his analysis Economic Impacts of the American Steel Industry, Dr. Timothy J. Considine, professor of energy economics, University of Wyoming, notes that "Every one job in the US steel industry supports seven jobs in the US economy, reflecting its ripple effect on employment."

For 2011, the report states, the American steel industry directly employed 150,700 people, and the multiplier effect means it supported more than 1,022,009 jobs.

Finnish stainless steel maker Outokumpu has agreed to acquire Inoxum, the stainless steel unit of Germany’s ThyssenKrupp.

Finnish stainless steel maker Outokumpu has agreed to acquire Inoxum, the stainless steel unit of Germany’s ThyssenKrupp.

The €2.7 billion deal is set to make Outokumpu a market leader in European stainless steel, with almost €12 billion in revenues, more than 19,000 employees and an approximate 50 per cent market share.

Outokumpu already employs around 8,000 people in more than 30 countries and is headquartered in Espoo, Finland.

Alcoa intends to expand its Davenport, Iowa rolled products plant to meet rising demand from the automotive market.

Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are switching from steel to aluminum in their drive to increase the fuel efficiency, safety, durability and performance of their vehicles.

Construction and infrastructure specialist Ballast Nedam has signed a contract worth around €250 million with wpd for the engineering, supply and installation of 80 foundations at the Butendiek offshore wind farm in Germany.

The wind farm is located in the German Bight, 32 kilometres west of the island of Sylt, and consists of 80 turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW—288 MW in total. The water depth at the wind farm is between 17 and 22 metres.
