The company’s net profit for the first quarter of the year increased by 20 per cent to €1.42 billion, with revenue rising nine per cent to €27 billion.

AT&T has indicated for the first time that its proposed merger with T-Mobile USA may not go ahead.

Dallas, Texas-based AT&T and T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom have announced the withdrawal of their merger application from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), following an announcement this week by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski that he was moving to block the deal.

Such a move would create a major obstacle to the merger in the near term.

Karelian Diamond Resources has announced the resumption of drilling on its Seitaperä diamondiferous kimberlite pipe in Finland.

The 6.9 hectare Seitaperä pipe, in the Kuhmo region of Finland, is the largest known kimberlite pipe in the country.

Drilling at Seitaperä will consist of five or more drill holes with an objective to further test the extent of the diamond-bearing kimberlite facies and the shape of the kimberlite pipe to a depth of approximately 100 metres.

The car manufacturing industry in the UK is under threat from a lack of local component suppliers, according to Nick Reilly, chairman of GM Europe.

Reilly told the BBC this weekend that the lack of home-based parts manufacturers was the most critical issue facing the UK motor industry, which was obliged to import a high proportion of parts.

Even overseas manufacturers like Toyota and Nissan were finding it hard to compete in their UK operations, he said, because of shipping costs and an extended supply chain.

The chairman of the taskforce overseeing the creation of the Kigali Free Trade Zone (KFTZ) in Rwanda has said it will be launched in April this year.

The chairman of the taskforce overseeing the creation of the Kigali Free Trade Zone (KFTZ) in Rwanda has said it will be launched in April this year.

Speaking to Business Times, Alex Ruzibukira, head of the Kigali Free Trade Zone initiative at the state-run Rwanda Development Board, said around 90 per cent of the work on the 250-hectare project has been completed.

With the necessary infrastructure now in place, investors will be able to commence construction of factories and warehouses.

Jane Bordenave revisits Retsol to learn about the dramatic changes that have taken place over the past year; and to find out more about chairman Wayne Duncan’s ambitious plans for the future.

 

A lot has changed since we last spoke to Retsol in 2009. The company, which was established in 2002, was working with Unilever to manage two of its franchises in ice cream and health food. It was also involved in the fast food and bakery markets, independent of Unilever—however, since then the firm has undergone a major overhaul.
