Google has released a major new study into the use of social tools in the workplace, which gathered opinions from 2,700 professionals across Europe.

The research revealed that 71 percent of senior executives are using social tools at work at least once a week compared to 49 percent of those in more junior roles – going against the stereotype that social media in business is most popular with younger generations.

Initial hardware deliveries are expected to begin in 2013. The systems will be provided by Goodrich's Sensors and Integrated Systems teams in Minnesota and Vermont.

While total revenue fell 8 percent to $35.2 billion compared with the same quarter of 2011, this year’s figures do not include revenues from NBC Universal, in which a majority stake has been sold to Comcast.

DuPont has opened its latest ballistics testing facility at the DuPont Knowledge Center in Hyderabad, India. 

 

DuPont has opened its latest ballistics testing facility at the DuPont Knowledge Center in Hyderabad, India.

The state-of-the-art facility houses a ballistic testing range, a 600-ton helmet press and stab testing equipment.

It is the fifth DuPont site for testing protection materials in ballistic applications. Others are located in Richmond, Virginia; Meyrin, Switzerland; Paulina, Brazil and Wilmington, Delaware.

Air Products has brought onstream an expansion of its high-purity hydrogen selenide (H2Se) production capabilities at its electronic specialty materials manufacturing facility in Hometown, Pennsylvania.

The new capacity was added to serve the growing copper indium gallium selenium (CIGS) thin-film solar cell manufacturing market. 

Air Products can deliver H2Se to semiconductor and photovoltaic customers at more than 99.99 percent purity levels.

Air Products today announced it has acquired advanced adsorption technology assets for its generated gases product lines from Xebec Adsorption, Inc.

Air Products has purchased the technology, intellectual property and know-how related to structured adsorbents, beaded adsorbents, and rotary valves from Xebec, a publicly-traded Canadian company specializing in adsorption technology headquartered in Blainville, Quebec. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Human Grasp Assist device, known internally in both organizations as the K-glove or Robo-Glove, resulted from NASA and GM's Robonaut 2 – or R2 – project, which launched the first humanoid robot into space in 2011. R2 is a permanent resident of the International Space Station.

France Telecom-Orange and Publicis Groupe have partnered with Iris Capital Management to invest in technology companies, it has been announced.

Orange said the partnership would create one of Europe’s premier venture capital investors in the digital economy. Together, Orange and Publicis Groupe will contribute €150 million to the initiative; when added to Iris’ pre-existing funding commitments from investors, this will result in a total investment capacity of more than €300 million.

Dubai-based telecoms provider Du has opened a new call centre in Fujairah staffed by 100 per cent Emirati nationals.

The announcement comes as companies across the UAE and Gulf region strive to meet stringent labour laws passed in April last year requiring businesses to increase their intake of Emirati staff in skilled labour positions. Companies that fail to meet percentage quotas can be fined up to Dh20,000.

Transport secretary Justine Greening is expected to back the high-speed 100-mile rail link from London to Birmingham, which will be completed by 2026.

The first London-Birmingham phase will cost £17 billion, while the total cost incorporating the second phase—a further section of the line extending to Manchester and Leeds—is expected to reach £32 billion. This northern extension would be completed by around 2032/33.

Boeing chairman, president and CEO Jim McNerney welcomed the announcement. "For Boeing, this agreement represents the continuation of an enduring partnership between the company and the Kingdom that dates back to 1945 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt presented a DC-3 Dakota airplane to King Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," he said.
