Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, and Norway’s Statoil have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of 50 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to the UK.

Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, and Norway’s Statoil have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of 50 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to the UK.

The 10-year, NBP-linked gas supply contract begins in 2015 and secures sufficient gas to meet around five per cent of the UK’s total annual demand—enough for 3.5 million homes.

The UK currently imports around 50 per cent of its gas requirements.

Colombia’s Ecopetrol has announced a hydrocarbon discovery in its Logan 1 well in the US Gulf Coast.

Ecopetrol’s US subsidiary Ecopetrol America Inc. has a 20 per cent interest in the project, with Norway’s Statoil the operator.

The Logan 1 well is the first discovery with Ecopetrol's participation, through its US subsidiary, in one of the regions of the world with the greatest hydrocarbon potential, the company said.

Aker Solutions has received a letter of intent from Statoil for the engineering, procurement and construction of a subsea workover system for the Vigdis North East development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Vigdis North East is an oil and gas development situated in water depths of around 280 metres in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Aker’s work will include provision of a complete range of components for open water workover operations.

Angola’s national oil company Sonangol organised a restricted public bid round for access to pre-salt acreage in the Kwanza Basin in Angola. Pre-salt blocks are blocks where the main prospective interval was deposited prior to underwater salt accumulation millions of years ago.

Royal Dutch Shell is in exclusive talks with the Finnish fuel distributor St1 to sell the oil major's Swedish refinery, it has been announced.

The Gothenburg refinery has simple-to-medium complexity, allowing it to process low-sulphur light crude from the North Sea; but not high-sulphur crude.

With a processing capacity of about 78,000 barrels of crude oil per day, the refinery supplies the domestic market with specialist fuels, such as diesel that does not freeze in the cold Scandinavian climate.

A group led by the Italian energy group Edison has signed a deal for a pipeline to carry Caspian gas to Italy via Turkey and the Adriatic, cutting Europe’s dependence on Russia as its main gas supplier.

A memorandum of understanding for the Interconnection Turkey-Greece-Italy project, or ITGI, was signed yesterday in Ankara between Edison, Turkey’s state- run natural gas company Botas and Greek natural gas company Depa.

The ITGI project aims to transport an annual eight billion cubic metres of gas to Italy by upgrading existing infrastructure in Turkey and Greece and building a final link to Italy.

French engineering company Technip, headquartered in Paris, employs more than 23,000 people across the world and generates an annual turnover in excess of €7 billion. The Technip Group’s main office in Norway is in Sandvika, a few kilometres west of Oslo, with additional facilities in Orkanger, Haugesund and Stavanger. As the leading subsea engineering contractor on the Norwegian continental shelf, Technip Norway employs around 370 people and generated revenues in excess of €400 million in 2009.
