French electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company Asteelflash has announced the acquisition of the American EMS company, Catalyst Manufacturing Services Inc., based on the East Coast of the United States and in Mexico.

Asteelflash is already established on the west coast of the United States, and this acquisition extends its presence in North America, adding three production sites in Owego (New York), Raleigh (North Carolina) and Tijuana (Mexico).

TRW Automotive has announced it is to open a new facility in the state of Queretaro, Mexico, to produce a range of advanced brake systems.

TRW Automotive has announced it is to open a new facility in the state of Queretaro, Mexico, to produce a range of advanced brake systems.

The 150,000 square foot plant will manufacture hydraulic control units for a variety of electronic stability control systems, as well as brake actuation units including boosters and master cylinders.

Production at the new plant is expected to begin near the end of the first quarter in 2012, with an estimated total employment of 450 when full production is reached.

PepsiCo has joined forces with Grupo Embotelladoras Unidas to create a nationwide beverage company in Mexico.

The joint venture will combine PepsiCo’s beverage manufacturing and distribution operations in Mexico with those of GEUSA, a subsidiary of GEUPEC. Empresas Polar, the largest food and beverage company in Venezuela and a longtime leading bottler of Pepsi-Cola products in that country, will have an equity stake in the joint venture.

New York City has chosen Nissan to supply its next generation taxi fleet. The Taxi of Tomorrow will be built in the Nissan plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico and is expected to enter service in 2013.

New York City has chosen Nissan to supply its next generation taxi fleet. The Taxi of Tomorrow, based on the NV200 minivan, will be built in the Nissan plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico and is expected to enter service in 2013.

The 10-year contract, estimated to be worth $1 billion (£607 million), was announced Tuesday at a City Hall press briefing by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Nissan Americas Chairman Carlos Tavares.

Owens Corning announced an investment today in a new furnace to expand production capacity at its glass reinforcements facility in Tlaxcala, Mexico.

The expansion results from increasing global demand for glass reinforcements, and is the fourth production capacity increase announced by the company’s reinforcements division in recent months. Capacity increases were also recently announced in Yuhang, China; Gous-Khroustalny, Russia; and Besana, Italy.

Ford is using 310 suppliers in 22 countries to make parts for the new Focus, and many are adding jobs, facilities and equipment to meet demand for the vehicle. Suppliers have added 5,500 jobs at facilities in North America, Europe and Asia to produce parts for the new Focus.
