Gatwick Airport has signed a deal with Air China, which is seeking to expand its London network.

Gatwick Airport has signed a deal with Air China, which is seeking to expand its London network.

China’s national flag carrier will operate a non-stop service from Gatwick to Beijing International Airport four times a week. The Airbus A330-200 aircraft will depart Gatwick at 1300 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, arriving at Beijing airport at 0620 local time the following day. Return journeys will leave at 0135 and touch down at Gatwick at approximately 0550 the same day. Monday’s flight will start operating from the beginning of June.

The two companies said the combined entity will create a global leader in the logistics industry with annual revenues of more than €45 billion.

Dublin Port Company has unveiled its masterplan for the next 30 years, which includes the construction of a new cruise facility to accommodate over 135,000 passengers and almost 90 cruise liners each season.

The masterplan sets out the framework for the long-term development of Ireland’s largest port. Implementing the plan will cost in excess of €600 millionover the next 30 years, with the Dublin Port Company already committing to investing €110 million over the first five years of the masterplan period.

Logistics company Lynden International has extended its reach with the opening of a new service centre in Belgium, Lynden International (BE).

The new facility will see the company entering the transport and logistics services market catering for Belgium-based medical, pharmaceutical and other growth industries.

The centre will serve the medical and pharmaceutical industries with temperature-controlled shipping and single-point entry departure in and out of Europe, the company said.

UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company, released its results for Q4 2011 today, drawing attention to a 21 percent improvement in earnings per share.

UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company, released its results for Q4 2011 today, drawing attention to a 21 percent improvement in earnings per share.

UPS delivered 1.13 billion packages in Q4 2011, an increase of 3.6 percent over the same quarter of 2010. The company attributed the increase in average daily volume to “robust” internet shopping activity.

Total revenue increased 6 percent to $14.2 billion and adjusted operating profit climbed 17 percent to over $2 billion.

Trade intelligence company Zepol Corporation reports that US import shipment volume for December, measured in TEUs, decreased 8.2 percent from November, but increased 1.5 percent from December of 2010.

The total number of inbound shipments decreased 6.5 percent from November and increased 2.3 percent from December of last year. For the year 2011 as a whole, total TEUs are up 0.98 percent from 2010.

Swiss onboard products and services provider gategroup has won a contract with Virgin Atlantic Airways to provide end-to-end catering services for the airline's long-haul operations from the UK.

Swiss onboard products and services provider gategroup has won a contract with Virgin Atlantic Airways to provide end-to-end catering services for the airline's long-haul operations from the UK.

The agreement, worth CHF40 million to CHF50 million per annum, is for services on Virgin’s flights from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow. The contract will take effect from June 1 this year for three years, with an option to extend for a further two years.
