US convenience retailer 7-Eleven announced completion today of its deal with ExxonMobil to acquire retail interests in 51 sites in North Texas.

US convenience retailer 7-Eleven announced completion today of its deal with ExxonMobil to acquire retail interests in 51 sites in North Texas.

The sites are all in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area and include two unused parcels of land.

The majority of locations will be rebranded as 7-Eleven stores, although they will retain the Exxon gasoline brand.

Reporting yesterday, the third largest US oil company ConocoPhillips reported a 43 per cent year-on-year rise in quarterly earnings to $3 billion, but said it was disappointed not to have achieved its production and refining targets.

Switzerland-based engineering and construction group Foster Wheeler has won a contract to carry out an availability and reliability study on the possible expansion of Abu Dhabi’s Zirku oil processing facilities.

Foster Wheeler was awarded the contract by Abu Dhabi-based oil company Zakum Development Co (Zadco), formed in order to develop the Upper Zakum oil field on behalf of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and other shareholders, namely ExxonMobil and the Japan Oil Development Company.

Royal Dutch Shell is in exclusive talks with the Finnish fuel distributor St1 to sell the oil major's Swedish refinery, it has been announced.

The Gothenburg refinery has simple-to-medium complexity, allowing it to process low-sulphur light crude from the North Sea; but not high-sulphur crude.

With a processing capacity of about 78,000 barrels of crude oil per day, the refinery supplies the domestic market with specialist fuels, such as diesel that does not freeze in the cold Scandinavian climate.

Twenty years ago, northern Qatar was a rocky desert and Ras Laffan a remote promontory jutting out into the Arabian Gulf. What happened next was that gas was discovered in what is now known as the North Field, after which a new port was constructed to ship it round the world.
