Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, and Norway’s Statoil have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of 50 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to the UK.

Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, and Norway’s Statoil have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of 50 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to the UK.

The 10-year, NBP-linked gas supply contract begins in 2015 and secures sufficient gas to meet around five per cent of the UK’s total annual demand—enough for 3.5 million homes.

The UK currently imports around 50 per cent of its gas requirements.

Centrica, the owner of British Gas, is to almost double its stake in the Norwegian Stratfjord field in a deal that will boost its expansion efforts in the North Sea.

Centrica, the owner of British Gas, is to almost double its stake in the Norwegian Stratfjord field in a deal that will boost its expansion efforts in the North Sea.

The acquisition, worth £144 million, will increase Centrica’s oil and gas reserves by 29 million barrels of oil equivalent. It will provide the UK-based company with an additional 172 billion cubic feet equivalent of gas and oil reserves, and an incremental 70 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and oil production in 2010.

The UK’s biggest energy supplier, Centrica, will buy natural gas assets in Canada from Suncor Energy in a deal worth £229 million.

The UK’s biggest energy supplier, Centrica, is buying natural gas assets in Canada from Suncor Energy in a deal worth £229 million.

Direct Energy, Centrica's North American unit, will gain 241 billion cubic feet equivalent of natural gas reserves in the Wildcat Hills area of Alberta, increasing its resources by about 60 per cent to 641 billion cubic feet.

Twenty miles north-west of Calgary, the assets consist of 97 producing wells and related infrastructure, as well as 42,000 net acres of undeveloped land.
