Norway’s Statoil and partner ExxonMobil have made a large gas discovery in the Zafarani exploration well offshore Tanzania. 

Norway’s Statoil and partner ExxonMobil have made a large gas discovery in the Zafarani exploration well offshore Tanzania. 

Logging results have shown what Statoil is calling a “high impact discovery”, so far proving up to five trillion cubic feet of gas in-place.

The well has encountered 120 metres of excellent quality reservoir with high porosity and high permeability, Statoil said. The gas-water contact has not been established and drilling operations are ongoing.

Anheuser-Busch InBev, the brewer of Budweiser, Becks and Stella Artois, has reported rising profits in the second quarter of 2011.

The world’s largest brewer announced net profit of $1.6 billion in 2Q11, up 11.3 percent from $1.440 billion in 2Q10. Total revenue grew 3.7 percent in the quarter, driven by brand building strategies and the implementation of revenue management best practices, the company said in a statement.

Riversdale has hard coking-coal projects in Mozambique and also owns an underground coal mine in South Africa—Zululand Anthracite Colliery. Mozambique is strategically well placed to supply hard coking coal to India and Brazil, where the steel industry is growing and a number of new coal-fired power stations are being built.

The purchase of Elektro, a distribution company which serves 2.2 million clients in Sao Paulo state, will turn Iberdrola into one of the leading operators in Brazil’s electricity sector. It will also complement the company’s existing presence in north-eastern Brazil.

BP announced today that it has reached agreement to sell its recently acquired interests in four mature producing deepwater oil and gas fields in the US Gulf of Mexico to Marubeni Oil and Gas for $650 million.

BP acquired the interests in the Magnolia, Merganser, Nansen and Zia fields from Devon Energy earlier in 2010 as part of a wider acquisition of assets in the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and Azerbaijan.
